Kazakhstani loses chance to reach Australian Open main draw

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Sad news for tennis fans in Kazakhstan - Yulia Putintseva will not be joining Zarina Diyas and Yaroslava Shvedova at the Australian Open this year, Kazinform has learnt from Vesti.kz.

The 20-year-old Putintseva crashed out of the Melbourne tournament in the qualifying round. It was Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic who crashed Yulia's dream of advancing to the AO main draw. Hradecka routed the Kazakhstani in straight sets 6:1, 6:2 in Round 3 of women's qualification singles. The Czech athlete hit 6 aces and made 29unforced errors, whereas, Putintseva hit only 2 aces, but made 18 unforced errors. As for Diyas and Shvedova, they are both facing quite strong competition from Urszula Radwanska (Poland) and Lucie Safarova (Czech Republic) in the first round respectively.
