Kazakhstan, Türkiye to cooperate in plant quarantine and protection

The upper chamber of the Kazakh Parliament has approved ratification of the Agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Türkiye on cooperation in quarantine and plant protection, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The document aims at improvement of quarantine measures and development of relations in this area.

The agreement provides for exchange of regulatory legal acts, the national list of harmful quarantine organisms and other regulations, development of cooperation between the scientific-research institutions and organizations in the field of plant quarantine and their protection. The document also sets a requirement for imported goods, phytosanitary certification and transit of cargo,” senator Yernur Aitkenov said presenting the document.

According to him, in the past three years, Kazakhstan exported 700,000 tons of plant products to Türkiye, and imported around 40,000 tons of agricultural products from this country and 2,700 pieces of seed.

All quarantineable products undergo phytosanitary control.

The adoption of this law will let strengthen cooperation between the two countries and improve quarantine services’ work, the senator added.
