One of the goals of the program was to double road freight volumes by 2020, and increase the volume tenfold by 2050.

The program will include further developing the country's road network, increasing road safety and reconstructing six international routes, Xinhua reports.

The country also plans to improve the infrastructure associated with the Silk Wind project, which connects China with Eastern Europe via Turkey and Kazakhstan.
