Kazakhstan to import 6.3 bln cu m of Russian gas for northern regions
Kazakhstan and Russia are holding talks on the construction of the new main gas pipeline from Russia to Kazakhstan to supply gas to the northern regions of Kazakhstan and the city of Astana, Vice Minister of Energy Kaiyrkhan Tutkyshbayev told a briefing at the Central Communications Service, Qazinform News Agency reports.
He said Kazakhstan is negotiating with Gazprom company on the construction of a new main gas pipeline to connect the existing Saryarka gas supply system with the Russian gas pipeline near Ishim, Karasulskaya compressor station. It would ensure reliable gas supply to northern regions of Kazakhstan and diversify delivery routes.
He added Kazakhstan aims to import up to 6.3 billion cubic meters of Russian gas annually starting in 2030. Negotiations with the Russian side are ongoing.
As written before, Kazakhstan and Gazprom company signed a memorandum on the project last October on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum.
He revealed the Kazakh Energy Ministry, together with Samruk-Kazyna, QazaqGaz, and KazMunayGas signed a plan to develop new hydrocarbon fields until 2035 to meet rising internal demand for commercial gas and provide new investment projects with the necessary gas supplies.
Earlier, he said Kazakhstan’s natural gas consumption will increase by 1 billion cubic meters in 2026.
