Kazakhstan to hold Senate elections
President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev decreed to hold elections of the deputies to the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan on October 1, 2014 in accordance with subparagraph 2), Article 44 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Article 69 of the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan as of September 28, 1995 "On elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan ", due to the expiration of the constitutional term in office of the Senate deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, elected in October 2008. 39 candidates will participate in the elections. The Kazakh Senate consists of 47 deputies, 15 of them are appointed by the President, 32 are elected by maslikhats (2 from each region, Astana and Almaty cities). The Senate deputies are elected for a term of 6 years.
