Kazakhstan to attract 154.7 billion yen in concessional loans
Kazakhstan will attract concessional loans totaling 154.7 billion Japanese yen from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), following ratification of agreements in the Majilis, Qazinform News Agency reports.
The agreements were signed on May 20 and June 15, 2026, under the President’s decrees.
Finance Minister Madi Takiyev said loans are denominated in yen due to Japan’s low interest rates and the yen’s close correlation with the tenge.
The loans have a maturity period of 11 years, including a 5-year grace period. Repayment will come from the national budget.
He said the funds will support priority Government measures and key economic sectors.
Finance Minister Madi Takiyev emphasized that IBRD and AIIB are strategic partners of Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan joined IBRD in 1992 and AIIB in 2017.
He noted that the country’s public debt remains at a safe and manageable level, assessed by major international financial institutions as “low.”
Kazakhstan’s debt indicators align with international standards, ensuring room for long-term economic growth.
He stated concessional loans from global institutions are a standard practice to finance measures supporting economic stability and development.
