Kazakhstan to attend conference on nuclear deterrence in London
According to Trend, the conference will be held in London on May 20-21. The theme of the conference is to enhance the international dialogue on nuclear deterrence, to ensure better understanding of the prospects for current and future threats to international security and the role of deterrence against these threats.
The initiators of the conference are the world politicians George Shultz, William Perry, Henry Kissinger, Sam Nunn, Des Browne.
The organizers of the conference are the U.S foundation "Initiative on reducing the nuclear threat", the European network of leadership for multilateral nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, as well as the Hoover Institute Stanford University, the Foreign Ministry said.
However, the first and current president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev gave up nuclear warheads. This year, the country will celebrate the 20th closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site.
In 1996, Kazakhstan joined the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.
