Kazakhstan to announce seventh amnesty since declaring its independence

ASTANA. May 30. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ Kazakhstan is going to announce the 7th amnesty since declaration of its independence, Majilis deputy Serik Temirbulatov has said today at the first sitting of the working group for the bill On amnesty in connection with the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence.
According to the deputy, Kazakhstan has already adopted six laws on amnesty over 20 years. The first amnesty was announced on October 5, 1994 and was connected with the International Year of Family. The next amnesties were devoted to the first anniversary of Kazakhstan Constitution (1996), the Year of Unity and Continuity of Generations (1999), the 10th anniversary of adoption of the Declaration on State Sovereignty of Kazakhstan (2000), the 10th anniversary of independence of Kazakhstan (2002) and celebration of Independence Day of Kazakhstan (2006).
As Vice Minister of Justice Amirkhan Amanbayev said, about 2, 200 prisoners and 10, 600 persons sentenced to punishment without isolation from society would undergo the amnesty.
