Kazakhstan takes over CIS presidency from Belarus

According to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee, Chairman of the Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev thanked the Belarusian side for the successful chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States and wished success to the Republic of Kazakhstan. The documents were presented by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Belarus, Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan in the CIS Bodies Ergali Bulegenov. The Kazakh diplomat Bulegenov said that Kazakhstan intends to focus on the implementation of existing decisions and agreements, strengthening the authority of the CIS. In addition, the Council considered proposals to the draft agenda of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council that is due in Osh, Kyrgyzstan on 3 April 2015. In 2014 the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council held 13 meetings, including a joint one with the Commission for Economic Matters under the CIS Economic Council. A total of 37 issues related to different areas of cooperation were discussed at those meetings. The Council discussed issues related to the draft agendas of the CIS Heads of State Council, the CIS Heads of Government Councils, the CIS Foreign Ministers Council. The Council also devoted its attention to the issues related to the control over the implementation of the documents adopted by the CIS supreme bodies.
