Kazakhstan, Switzerland finance ministers sign MoU

KAZINFORM - Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Finance Bakhyt Sultanov and Head of Swiss Federal Department of Finance Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf have signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation between the finance authorities of the two countries, Kazinform has learnt from primeminister.kz.

It is planned to set up working groups on the issues of customs procedures, provision of tax transparency, treasury, and public procurement, Sultanov said.

In addition, there was an exchange of letters on the expanded interpretation of the provisions of the Convention on the avoidance of double taxation between the two countries.

"This exchange of documents will ensure a correct interpretation of our cooperation in the framework of the Convention on the avoidance of double taxation. This interpretation is needed for businessmen and state agencies to properly understand the use of the provisions of the Convention," Sultanov added.

He recalled that the documents on the avoidance of double taxation with Kazakhstan were signed by more than 40 countries, which provide about 95% of the country's total trade turnover.

Ms. Widmer-Schlumpf also met with Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov, management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and JSC "National Company "Astana EXPO 2017".

The meeting focused on the prospects for further cooperation in the framework of Kazakhstan's participation in the Swiss subgroup of the IMF and World Bank, as well as the participation of Switzerland in the international specialized exhibition EXPO 2017.
