Kazakhstan successfully ensures inter-religious harmony, environmental protection and fight against financial crisis - Antonio Guterres

The meeting discussed the main cooperation directions of Kazakhstan and UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), as well as protecting issues for the rights of refugees in Kazakhstan.

During the talks Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that Kazakhstan supported the UNHCR activity.

"The regulation of migration is important for Kazakhstan. Over the years our country has provided a shelter to more than fifteen thousand refugees. We are grateful that the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees gives appreciation of the Kazakh Government’s activity in this direction. Work in this field is relevant as the world migration is increasing; the number of refugees is expanding every year”, said the Kazakh President.

A.Guterres expressed his gratitude for fruitful cooperation between the Government of Kazakhstan and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

"We know that you have made a great contribution to promotion of international initiatives for Kazakhstan, both in the political and economic spheres. There are significant advances in the field of inter-religious harmony, environmental protection, and fight against the financial crisis. There were successfully conducted a number of international forums and conferences. In this context, the initiative of Kazakhstan is important for establishing the UN Centre in Almaty", said the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

The parties also debated the ways of implementing the proposals in the area of ​​effective migration management including that within the framework initiated by Kazakhstani "Almaty Process." These measures will help Kazakhstan become a model state for the Central Asian region in the field of migration policy.
