Kazakhstan should take specific flight safety measures as plane crashes near Aktau, PM

Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev reported on the work of the governmental commission at the plane crash site near the city of Aktau to Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov at the meeting of the interdepartmental commission on law violation prevention, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Rescue services concluded search operations. 38 people died after the passenger plane crashed on Wednesday, December 25, near the city of Aktau. 29 survivors were hospitalized. All of them are receiving treatment, he said.

Highly skilled specialists of the National Coordination Center of Emergency Medicine and top republican centers of Kazakhstan arrived in Aktau.

A special plane of the Russian Healthcare and Emergencies Ministries, a group of experienced psychologists, doctors and rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan, equipped with the necessary equipment, was sent to the city of Aktau by the Be-200 ES amphibious aircraft of the Ministry of Emergency Situations immediately after the crash of the passenger plane belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines. 

Today the plane of the emergency medicine of Russia arrived in Aktau to airlift nine Russians injured in the plane crash left for Moscow.

As stated there, a local man-made emergency regime is imposed in Tupkaragan district.

The Prime Minister expressed condolences to the bereaved families. He said the Government and competent authorities are providing those injured and families of the plane crash victims with necessary assistance.

Besides, Bektenov assigned those present to take specific measures to ensure flight and aviation safety. He stressed the need to conduct unannounced inspection and take under control technical condition of airports and aircraft.

As earlier reported, the Azerbaijan Airlines plane, which was operating a flight en route Baku-Grozny, crashed Wednesday morning near Kazakhstan's Aktau city.

67 persons were onboard the plane, including 62 passengers and five crew members. Unfortunately, 38 people died, 29 survived, said Kazakh Transport Minister Marat Karabayev during a briefing in Aktau.

Among the passengers were 37 citizens of Azerbaijan, of whom 23 died and 14 survived. All three Kyrgyzstani nationals survived. There were 16 Russian nationals, of whom seven died and nine survived. All six Kazakhstani nationals died.

Three crew members out of five survived.

Names of Kazakhstanis killed in plane crash near Aktau were revealed.

The government commission headed by Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev began its work at the crash site of the plane.

As was reported, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov reported to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the current situation related to the passenger plane crash near Aktau.

Upon Kazakh President Tokayev’s instruction, an ambulance aircraft left Astana headed to Aktau.

It was reported that President Tokayev tasked to set up a state commission in connection with the plane crash.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev cut short his trip to Russia due to the plane crash.

Earlier, Kazinform News Agency presented the preliminary list of passengers onboard the crashed plane.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed his condolences to Azerbaijan’s President Aliyev following the incident.

It was previously informed Kazakh Emergency Situations Minister Chingis Arinov arrived in Aktau.
