Kazakhstan sees sharp rise in state funding for private schools

Funding for private schools in Kazakhstan through the state education procurement has surged nearly 17-fold over the past five years, Qazinform News Agency reports.

In 2020, approximately 13 billion tenge was allocated to private schools in 2020. In 2025, this figre reached 225 billion tenge.

Responding to Qazinform’s inquiry, the Ministry of Education explained that the increase reflects the private sector’s growing role in addressing shortages of student places and expanding access to secondary education.

"Over the past five years, funding for private schools through state education procurement has increased significantly. This demonstrates the active involvement of the private sector in addressing the shortage of student places and expanding access to secondary education," the ministry noted.

Officials added that private schools are now playing an increasingly prominent role in the country's secondary education system. The number of such institutions has approached one thousand.
