ASTANA. December 5. KAZINFORM Annual reduction in number of university students has been registered in Kazakhstan, Head of Higher and Postgraduate Education Department under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan Fatima Zhakypova said at the Thursday meeting of the "Expert" debating club as she revealed statistical figures too sad to ignore.
"The number of students who enrolled in higher education institutions this year is 70 thousand less, compared to the 2012 statistics. In comparison with the academic year of 2011, things are even worse - the universities have fallen short of 100 thousand students," Ms Zhakypova admitted.
In her opinion, nowadays young people do not believe that higher education or diploma open doors to a better future or give a chance to carve a successful career.
Ms Zhakypova also informed that the number of hours for practical training at universities has grown fourfold over the last years. "Today university students do more practical training than three years ago," she added.
