Kazakhstan's Zhailauov to vie for EPBC welterweight title

Zhailauov is rated in the top 15 by the WBA and has an unblemished 12 fight record, but Hammond says he's more than up for the challenge and feels the fight gives him a chance to make a statement on the world stage. At stake will be the vacant WBC Eurasia Pacific crown, so a victory for the 2012 Olympian from New South Wales will likely see him soar up the ratings of at least two sanctioning bodies. "It's a massive opportunity for me, a chance to make people really sit up and take notice. Zhailauov is a good boxer who is highly ranked, so if I win here hopefully it will give me more opportunities," Hammond, 9-0 (4 KOs), said. Hammond v Zhailauov will be contested over ten rounds at the Town Hall in Moree, the EPBC official website reads.
