Well-known philanthropist, academician of the International Academy of Tourism Askar Iskakov has made it public at the press-center of Kazinform agency in an interview with the journalists in Astana on Friday.

These are unique Torgay geoglyphs - embossed geometric patterns made of earth mounds which can be only seen from high altitude.

The uniqueness of these mounds is that they were hand made and they were made absolutely equal. Even the number of the mounds that makes the pattern is the same. There are 9 patterns named Ushtogay square, Torgay swastika, Yekidinsky cross, Ashchitastinsky crosses (two patterns). Approximate age of the patterns is from 2 to 10 thousand years. More precise age can be determined after artifacts are found.

Last month a special expedition was sent to the region in order to provide more information to society and government about the finding that has no comparison in the world. The aim of the expedition was to attract investors in business communities and governmental. The funds are needed for acquiring special equipment for scanning the mounds hence they cannot be excavated. The place can be destroyed if the spades and pickaxes used. Besides, there is great concern about people's attitude towards this place who make cattle cemeteries of the place and try to dig the mounds.

Unfortunately, as the conference participants informed, this issue had not been included in the Action Plan of 2009-2011 Cultural Heritage national project. Therefore, no funds are envisaged for its research in the budget.

"We must solve this problem as soon as possible, since while discussing this problem which takes much time we can just lose such unique historical monuments", Sapar Iskakov noted.

The expedition participants suggest establishing a public fund "Revival of Torgay". The historical monuments must be taken under the state protection. Besides, they are confident, that Torgay geoglyphs must be included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.
