Kazakhstan, Russia to continue work on Ural River preservation

URALSK. August 3. KAZINFORM /Yelzhan Yeraly/ "Works on the preservation of the Ural River will continue," says Majilis deputy Yelena Tarassenko, who has just returned from the 15th Kazakhstan-Russian historical-cultural and environmental expedition to the Ural River that ended in Atyrau.

The expedition team consisted of local historians and ecologists from the Orenburg region of Russia, West Kazakhstan and Atyrau oblasts and specialists of Kazakh Ministry of Environmental Protection.

"To save the Ural River it is needed to adopt comprehensive measures. This initiative is supported by the leaders of Kazakhstan and Russia. There was started the creation of a special fund to save the Urals. Kazakh Ministry of Environmental Protection and other government agencies are monitoring the state of the river. With the support of Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov there will be formed a group of experts," notes Tarassenko.

Next year the expedition will begin in Orenburg, Russia.
