Kazakhstan, Presight AI Ltd. agree on creation of supercomputer
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry, JSC Samruk-Kazyna and Presight AI Ltd signed a term sheet on the project of creation of a supercomputer in Kazakhstan and construction of an appropriate Data Processing Center, Kazinform News Agency reports.

As reported, at the Government’s Feb 7 extended session, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev tasked the Cabinet to continue digitalizing sectors of economy and ensuring broader application of artificial intelligence. The Head of State said that Kazakhstan proceeds to the creation of a high-productive supercomputer which will be available both for the researchers and various companies working at the domestic market.
The term sheet signed in presence of Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the UAE Suhail Mohammed Faraj Al Mazroui enshrines the agreements concluded at the COP28 Conference in Dubai in December 2023.
The project will be implemented in two stages. The first stage aims at placement of computational capacities in the Data Processing Center at JSC National Information Technologies (e-government ICT operator), and the second stage will focus on construction of a new data processing center with the placement of a big number of computational capacities, a press release from the Ministry reads.
Earlier, Bagdat Mussin spoke for the importance of creation of the country’s own LLM (large language model) to implement the AI in all spheres of economy, and into the e-government system.
Together with Nazarbayev University, Til-Qazyna Fund, and other institutions, the Ministry is currently working on creation of the Kazakh LLM.
Domestic market sees increase in the number of startups and mature companies specializing in AI implementation, such as Cerebra, ForUS.Data, GoatChat.AI, Higgsfield AI, AI Labs, Sergek Group etc.
Meanwhile, domestic market, higher education institutions, research community and governmental authorities need a technological infrastructure (supercomputer) for a successful development of AI tools.According to the Ministry, the sectors of Kazakhstan’s economy, including IT, financial services, healthcare, energy and production, will benefit from the implementation of AI. Besides, the launch of the supercomputer will determine Kazakhstan’s leadership in Central Asia in the field of AI and will enable the neighboring countries lease the computational capacities by neighboring countries.
