Kazakhstan participates in UN Conference on Transnational Organized Crime

The Conference will examine the key issues relating to the Convention and its protocols, discuss new forms of transnational organized crime and identify ways of cooperation in the field of extradition, mutual legal assistance and confiscation of proceeds of crime. In his opening statement, the Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, noted that over the fourteen years since the signing of the Convention, it has become a powerful multilateral tool to combat transnational organized crime. However, despite significant advances, the threat to international security and development posed by organized crime continues to grow steadily. The head of UNODC urged States to step up efforts to counter this phenomenon, to achieve full ratification of the Convention and its related protocols and to use these legal tools to combat traditional and new forms of crime. The 7th session is attended by a delegation of Kazakhstan, composed of representatives of law enforcement agencies. Kazakhstan stated its strong commitment to its obligations under the Convention, the active position of our country in the field of international cooperation and the measures taken for the effective implementation of the Convention. The United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime was adopted in December 2000. 180 States are participants of the Convention. Kazakhstan joined the Convention in 2008.
