Kazakhstan off to a good start at Asia-Pacific Deaf Games 2024 in Malaysia

80 athletes are representing Team Kazakhstan at the ongoing 10th Asia-Pacific Deaf Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Kazinform News Agency cites the press service of the Ministry of Tourism and Sport of Kazakhstan.

This major event brought together around 1,300 athletes with speech and hearing impairments from 24 countries, who are set to compete in athletics, taekwondo, judo, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, table tennis, badminton, chess, bowling and football.

Team Kazakhstan is represented by 80 athletes in eight sports, including athletics, taekwondo, judo, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, table tennis, badminton and chess.

The Kazakh team has been competing in the Asia-Pacific Deaf Games since 1996. This is our fifth participation. Our athletes conducted training camps in Bishkek, Issyk-Kul, Karaganda, Shymkent, Almaty and Almaty region and came with good training, said Kairatbek Seitbekov, sports department head at the sports training center for persons with disabilities, expressing hope that Kazakhstani athletes will perform successfully and bring medals for the country.

Team Kazakhstan has already secured two medals in chess, with Balzhan Zhumagaziyeva claiming the women’s blitz gold with a score of 8 points and Samazhan Kettebekov – the men’s blitz silver (8.5 points).

The 10th Asia-Pacific Deaf Games is set to run through December 8, 2024.
