Kazakhstan, Norway signed Memo of understanding

In the course of the meeting Kazakh Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Konstantin Zhigalov and Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr signed Memorandum of mutual understanding.

The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kingdom of Norway were established on June 5, 1992.

In 2008 the trade turnover between both countries made USD 743.1 mln from which export made USD 48.1 mln and import - USD 695 mln. The trade turnover for January-November last year made USD 275 mln whereas export made USD 7.2 mln and import - USD 267.8 mln.

During 1993-2008 years the inflow of direct investments from Norway to the Kazakhstan's economy made USD 80.2 mln. Several large Norwegian oil-and-gas companies have ongoing activities in Kazakhstan among which are Statoil, Norsk Hydro, Telenor International and others.
