Kazakhstan needs EU special partnership

BRUSSELS. October 31. KAZINFORM "Kazakhstan, being the engine of Central Asia, needs a special partnership with the European Union," President of "Eurasian Transition Group" Michael Laubsch said during the third meeting of  the Berlin Eurasian Club devoted to the results of implementation of the State Program "Path to Europe" and the European Union (EU) Strategy for Central Asia.

According to him, the current EU strategy for Central Asia reflects the common position and vision of all 27 EU member states in relation to the five Central Asian republics.

M. Laubsch revealed some figures that demonstrate the great potential of Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is on a par with such countries as Turkey and Mexico. 50% of titanium, used in the construction of aircrafts in Europe, is from Kazakhstan. Every third liter of gasoline used in Germany and Austria also comes from Kazakhstan.

"Kazakhstan as the engine of Central Asia needs a special partnership with the EU," M. Laubsch added.

According to him, if we compare the potential economic, political, social, and cultural achievements of Kazakhstan in the last 20 years, Kazakhstan is well ahead of other countries in Central Asia. At the same time the European Union through closer cooperation with Kazakhstan can boost development of civil society in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, as Kazakhstan is a region's country to emulate.

"Stable Kazakhstan with its multi-vector foreign and domestic policy and good relations with its neighbors directed its eyes to Europe. That is why we must not disappoint Kazakhstan", the President of "Eurasian Transition Group" concluded.
