'Kazakhstan meets 51st IMO' Decade kicks off in Astana

ASTANA. April 22. KAZINFORM /Murat Zhakeyev/ Opening ceremony of the decade "Kazakhstan meets the 51st International Mathematical Olympiad" has been held in the Presidential Cultural Center in Astana today.

Kazakhstan hosts the Olympiad for the first time ever. "We are very glad that the International Mathematical Olympiad will be held in our country and best future mathematicians from around the world will come here", Chief of the Astana Education Department A. Bimendina said.
Scientific-practical forums, master -classes and various competitions will be held within the decade.
The first IMO was held in 1959 in Romania with participation of Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland, Czechoslovakia, East Germany and Soviet Union. The Kazakh team has taken part in the competition since 1998. Last year the IMO took place in Germany.
