It was revealed by Kazakhstan's Minister of Environment and Water Resources Nurlan Kapparov at a press conference in Astana on Friday. "The results show the number of saigas in Kazakhstan have increased to 256,000, a rise from 30,000 in 2004-2005. The program proved to be quite effective," Minister Kapparov said. "We've enlisted help of local non-governmental organizations and our foreign colleagues to fight poaching within the said program. According to our experts, the number of saigas in Kazakhstan may reach half a million in next 5-10 years. In the future, Kazakhstan will be able to export saiga meat," he added.
