Kazakhstan marks Kozy Korpesh and Bayan Sulu Day

ASTANA. KAZINFORM Kazakhstan celebrates today, April 15, the national day of Kozy Korpesh and Bayan Sulu as a tribute to the history and traditions of the Kazakh people.

The image of these heroes of the Kazakh folklore is the symbol of eternal love between young man and girl, the Kazakh Romeo and Juliet. Kozy-Korpesh and Bayan Sulu is the most widespread lyrical poem of the Kazakh people. The poem tells the story of two friends Sarybai and Karabai who vowed to marry their children. Sarybai died before his son was born. Growing up Kozy and Bayan who had never seen each other, tied by a marriage agreement, finally fell in love with each other. But Karabai changed his mind and decided to marry his daughter to the local batyr, Kodar, who once saved his herds from jute. Kodar stood between the two young people.
