Kazakhstan made tremendous contribution to peacekeeping – Chinese expert
His opinion with Kazinform shared the head of the Center for International Studies of Energy Strategy under the Chinese Academy of International Studies Chi Tse.
According to Chinese expert, after gaining independence Kazakhstan has consistently pursued a policy aimed at the abolition of nuclear weapons. Thus, the country has made a significant contribution to the maintenance of peace and security. Nursultan Nazarbaev and nuclear disarmament are virtually synonymous when it comes to ridding mankind of the threat of total annihilation.
"We appreciate Kazakhstan's active role in the creation of a nuclear-free zone in Central Asia and the policy of global nuclear disarmament", said Chi Tse.
"Strengthening nuclear security, reduction of nuclear risk, improvement of the mechanisms for global nuclear disarmament, increasing international cooperation - are important areas of foreign policy of the Chinese Government", he stressed.
It bears to remind that August 29 is the International Day against Nuclear Tests. This date was approved by resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 2, 2009. The draft resolution was proposed by Kazakhstan. On 29 August 1991, the President of Kazakhstan signed the celebrated Decree closing the deadly nuclear test-site in Semipalatinsk. Returning to the events of that time it is important to remember that Kazakhstan had signed the Lisbon Protocol to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons as long ago as May 1992. In doing so, the newly independent State officially renounced the world's fourth-largest nuclear arsenal. That was a weighty bid for a place of honour among the civilized countries of the world. With his decision, the President of Kazakhstan demonstrated deep insight into the essence of international relations and a sense of responsibility for the secure future of the modem world.
