South Korea is set to host the second Nuclear Security Summit from Monday through Tuesday to bolster international safeguards and help prevent nuclear terrorism.

The meeting is scheduled to bring together top leaders from about 50 nations, including U.S. President Barack Obama, who hosted the first summit in Washington in 2010, Yonhap reports. Participants are expected to adopt a communique calling for concrete action plans to beef up global nuclear security, Nazarbayev said ahead of his trip to Seoul for the conference.

He said he is confident that terrorists will fail to find weakness of the international community over its nuclear security.

He also said his country's decision to give up nuclear weapons inherited from the now-defunct Soviet Union could be a clear precedent of efficient peace-loving policy that laid the basis for successful economic development.

He said possession of nuclear weapons is a factor that would harm security instead of promoting it.

In January, Kazakhstan celebrated the 20th anniversary of its diplomatic relations with South Korea. The bilateral trade volume stood at US$1 billion last year, Nazarbayev said, adding that the two countries have strengthened their strategic partnership.
