Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan commodity turnover surpasses USD 1.2 bln over 9 months

Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Head of the Presidential Administration of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov co-chaired the 12th sitting of the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan Intergovernmental Council in Bishkek, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The sides debated the expansion of trade and economic cooperation within agreements signed at the high level spotlighting cooperation in transport and logistics, industry, water resources, and energy.

The sides noted steady positive dynamics in a wide range of bilateral cooperation. The commodity turnover between the two nations for the 9 months surpassed 1.2 billion that is 1.6% more compared to the same period of 2-23.

The Prime Minister said Kazakhstan highly appreciated relations built on the principles of friendship, fraternity and good neighborliness.

In turn, Japarov said the Treaty on deepening and expanding allied relations would reveal new opportunities for further development of Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan cooperation and contribute to strengthening centuries-long fraternal ties between the two nations.

Those attending discussed the development of the roadmap for the development of vehicle checkpoints on the state border providing for the modernization of seven joint checkpoints, the Almaty-Bishkek economic corridor initiative, plans for strengthening water and energy cooperation, and expressed interest in the project on the construction of the Almaty-Issyk Kul highway.

Following the meeting the protocol of the 12th session of the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan Intergovernmental Council in Bishkek, the roadmap to increase mutual farm product deliveries, and the memorandum on tourism development were signed.

Notably, the volume of trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Belarus for the first 9 months of this year amounted to USD 68 million. This was announced during a meeting of the Kyrgyz-Belarusian intergovernmental commission in Bishkek.
