Kazakhstan joined OSCE ?Troika?

ASTANA. January 12. KAZINFORM /Bauyrzhan Mukanov/ Kazakhstan joined the OSCE ?Troika? on January 1, 2009. Official representative of Kazakhstan?s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yerzhan Ashikbayev has informed about it today at a briefing in Astana, Kazinform correspondent reports.

?According to the rules of OSCE procedures, ?Troika? is formed by Chairman-in-Office, the previous and succeeding Chairpersons of the Organization. Greece (Chairman-in-Office), Finland (Chairman of 2008) and Kazakhstan (Chairman of 2010) take part in the OSCE ?Troika? this year?, Y. Ashikbayev said. ?Troika is an important instrument in coordination of actions and mid-term planning in military and political, economic and environmental, humanitarian spheres of activity of the Organization. It is a body which provides succession in the activity of the Organization. It an adviser of the Chairman-in-Office?, Mr. Ashikbayev noted. Besides, Kazakhstan has proceeded to chair the OSCE Mediterranean Partner Contact Group for Cooperation. Apart from fifty six OSCE member states the Mediterranean Partner Contact Group includes Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco and Tunis. In the context of its chairmanship in the Group Kazakhstan intends to foster rapprochement of the Mediterranean countries with OSCE, strengthening of the dialogue and partnership. The exchange of experience in the sphere of confidence building measures, maintenance of international and inter-faith consent where Kazakhstan achieved significant results is an important aspect in this regard. Kazakhstan also intends to invite the reps of the OSCE Mediterranean Partner Contact Group for Cooperation to the forthcoming III Congress of World and Traditional Religions? Leaders which will take place in Astana this year.
