Kazakhstan joined ISO Council

ASTANA.  October 2. KAZINFORM By the results of open voting Kazakhstan has joined the Council of International Organization for Standardization for a two-year term, Kazinform has learnt from the Committee of Technical Regulation and Metrology.

Kazakhstan's candidacy to the ISO Council was nominated by the USA, Japan, Israel, Austria, Poland, South African Republic and other countries.

"Participation in the work of the ISO Council will let Kazakhstan and other CA countries be involved in development and formation of a strategy in international standardization, submit their ideas in solution of global issues", the Committee's press service informs.

Chairman of the Committee of Technical Regulation and Metrology of the Kazakh Ministry of Industry Gabit Mukhambetov has been elected Regional Officer for Central Asia for 2010-2012 by the ISO Council.
