Kazakhstan is a vital bridge between East and West, says former UN chief Ban Ki-moon

Kazakh leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, Chair of the Boao Forum for Asia, President of the Global Green Growth Institute Ban Ki-moon, Kazinform News Agency cites Akorda.

Expressing gratitude to Ban Ki-moon for the invitation to attend the Boao Forum for Asia, Tokayev pointed out his considerable contribution to the world community while in the post of Secretary-General of the United Nations.

From my point of view, you’re one of the best secretary generals in the history of the United Nations. It was pleasure for and an honor to work in the UN under your leadership for two and a half years, said Tokayev.

For his part, Ban Ki-moon stressed the significant contribution the Kazakh leader made to the promotion of international cooperation.

As a Kazakh leader, you make active efforts to ensure peace and accord in the region and empower people and the UN. I believe that Kazakhstan serves as a vital bridge between East and West. You have a huge experience in the understanding of the world order of East and West, said the South Korean diplomat.

The interlocutors also discussed the global agenda, including the role of the UN in effective overcoming of global challenges.

During the meeting, the Kazakh President spoke about the international initiatives of Kazakhstan. As part of the 79th session of the UNGA, Kazakhstan and France eye holding the One Water Summit. The Regional Climate Summit is set to take place in Astana in 2026.

Head of State Tokayev invited Ban Ki-moon to take part in the upcoming Astana International Forum as one of the core speakers.

To note, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev participated in the opening ceremony of the 23rd edition of the Boao Forum for Asia plenary session held annually in south China’s Hainan province. This year, the theme of the event is "Asia and the World: Common Challenges, Shared Responsibilities".
