Kazakhstan has reduced arable land under wheat and rice

ASTANA. April 2. KAZINFORM - Kazakhstan during this sowing season will reduce the area under wheat and rice. This has been announced today at the meeting of the Government by the Minister of Agriculture Asylzhan Mamytbekov.

"As part of the President's instructions given to them at the enlarged session of the Government January 27, 2012, and the signed memos between the Ministry of Agriculture, akimats of the regions, KazAgro national holding and " KazAgroInnovation " JSC to diversify crop acreage for 2012-2016 it is expected to decrease the wheat area to the level of 2012 by 468 thousand hectares, of rice by 5.7 thousand hectares due to expansion of the areas of priority crops like corn - 5.6 thousand hectares and of other crops - 7.6 thousand hectares ", informed the minister.

According to him, the areas of oil crops reached 1.9 million hectares, 43 hectares more than the previous year, forage crops - 3.1 million ha, which is also by 265 hectares more compared with the level in 2012.

"The work on diversification is underway", concluded Mamytbekov.
