Kazakhstan has 6 more years to achieve Millennium Development Goals: Haolyan Shu

ASTANA. October 21. KAZINFORM /Gulnara Zhandagulova/ "Kazakhstan has 6 more years to achieve the Millennium Development Goals stated at the declaration adopted at the Millennium Summit in 2000", Resident coordinator of the UN in Kazakhstan Haolyan Shu has said Wednesday at the workshop in Astana.

According to the UN Resident coordinator, Kazakhstan has already achieved some of the MDGs, such as poverty reduction, access to primary education and promotion of women's rights. However, a range of problems demanding special attention of the Government exists.

"The situation with child and maternal mortality, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis remains complicated. The issue of state of the natural environment and ecological-economic situation in Kazakhstan must be addressed as well", he noted.
