Kazakhstan eyes S Korea's experience in EXPO-2012 in Yeosu

ASTANA. March 23. KAZINFORM On March 18-22, 2013 Kazakhstan delegation led by Rapil Zhoshybayev, Commissioner of the International Specialized Exhibition EXPO 2017, Executive Secretary of the Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry; and Talgat Yermegiyayev, President of the "EXPO 2017 Astana National Company Ltd." visited South Korea to study its experience in arranging EXPO 2012 in Yeosu.

The talks were attended by Dulat Bakishev, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Korea, Kazinform refers to the press service of the Kazakh MFA.

Meetings in Seoul included key EXPO 2012 officials, including Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choe Kwang-shik, EXPO-2012 Commissioner Lee Jeong Hee, EXPO-2012 Organizing Committee Chairman Kang Dong-suk and representatives of large development companies.

The Kazakhstan delegation expressed its gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Korea for the support to Astana in a bid to host EXPO in 2017, and invited it to participate in the exposition in Kazakhstan. The Korean side was briefed on the concept and key objective of the specialized exhibition, which is expected to substantively contribute to the global industry of the alternative and renewable energy and to boost the green economy of Kazakhstan.

The Korean party emphasized the importance and prospects of the future Energy theme and suggested a number of constructive proposals aimed to attract tourists to EXPO-2017 and emphasized that Astana has all necessary features and prospects for successful hosting of EXPO.

Korean experts noted that these events attract large foreign investments and foster the country's infrastructure development.

During its visit the Kazakhstan delegation, that included tourism and architecture experts explored the EXPO-2012 infrastructure in Yeosu.

The EXPO-2012 held on May 12-August 12 and themed "The Living Ocean and Coast" is assumed to be one of its kind, which focused attention of the public on importance of oceans, their pollution and increase of their level, decrease of the biological species and other challenges faced by the oceans and coasts.
