Kazakhstan exported 50, 000 tons of wheat to China last year
"In order to promote the export of Kazakhstan wheat, the parties agreed to charge the interested companies to consider the possibility of construction of a rail grain terminal on the Kazakh-Chinese border and activate their efforts in this direction", the document reads.
Since 2009 Kazakhstan has been trying to export its wheat to China and Southeast Asia through the Chinese territory. But, as Chairman of Prodcorporation JSC Bebitkhan Kabdrakhmanov said at the meeting of the Exporters Council in Astana in January, Kazakhstan's attempts to promote its wheat export was not successful. "Transportation of wheat to China leads to rise in its price and makes it uncompetitive compared to Australian and U.S. wheat imported to China by sea", B. Kabdrakhmanov explained.
