Kazakhstan - example of promotion of human rights in region

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Ombudsman Askar Shakirov met with Acting Regional Representative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Central Asia Elizabeth da Costa in Astana today, the press service of the Ombudsman of Kazakhstan informs.

The sides discussed the bilateral cooperation between the Ombudsman institution and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

A. Shakirov informed his counterpart about the results of his visit to Geneva in March 2015, about the results of the meetings with the heads of international organizations held there.

During the meeting the interlocutors praised the level of ensuring of observation of human rights in Kazakhstan. According to the UN, Kazakhstan already has great experience in stable promotion of human rights and introduction of international standards for the other countries.

According to the Kazakhstani Ombudsman, the main factor for successful activity in this sphere is absolute support rendered by the state over the entire period of functioning of the institution.

"Accumulated by us experience in many fields of this sphere can be of a special interest for many other countries of the region," A. Shakirov noted.

The regional UN representative was also familiarized with the taken measures on implementation of the recommendations given to Kazakhstan by the UN Council for Human Rights.

Besides, noting successful bilateral meetings, the Ombudsman proposed to activate cooperation of the regional UN Human Rights Office with the Ombudsman Institution.
