The newly-established committee will address the illicit utilization of water and its data misrepresentation, in addition to investigating illicit economic activities on the country's water bodies.

“The ministry is taking the fight against the illicit use of water under special control. The work of the new committee is aimed at preventing offences and protecting the country's water resources. In conjunction with the proposed changes to the legislation, this should significantly strengthen the fight against the "black market" of water,” the Kazakh Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, stated.
