ASTANA. February 18. KAZINFORM. /Muratbek Makulbekov/ Kazakhstan considers its chairmanship in the OSCE as a good opportunity to strengthen interaction of the participating countries on a wide array of topics including security, economic cooperation, development of humanitarian contacts and promotion of democratic values. Kazakh Senate Chairman, Vice Speaker of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has said it at the sitting of the OSCE Standing Committee in Vienna; the Senate's press service told Kazinform.
K. Tokayev outlined the concept of Kazakhstan's chairmanship. Its motto was proclaimed in Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's video-address at the January inaugural meeting of the OSCE standing Committee.
Among the priorities of our chairmanship the Senate Speaker named struggle against terrorism, drug trafficking, traffic in arms and human beings, and rehabilitation of Afghanistan. He expressed opinion that Kazakhstan's chairmanship could initiate a new stage in relations between East and West and strengthen mutual confidence.
