According to the Ministry, Kazakhstan has significantly improved its indicators in the index. The country has climbed up by eight spots in the Mobile Internet Global Performance, occupying 49th position. The  average download speed is 81.58Mbps, upload speed is 18.42Mbps, and latency is 18ms. As for fixed broadband internet, the country has improved its ranking by 5 points and occupies now 83rd position, with download speed at 77.93Mbps, upload speed at 80.83Mbps, and latency at 8ms.

The Ministry highlights that this became possible due to the implementation of governmental programs and efforts of communications services providers.

In 2024, the country has modernized its fixed line network. 4G coverage has been expanded and the implementation of 5G in major cities has begun. All this contributed to the improvement of Kazakhstan’s position in the global ranking.

As part of the Affordable Internet national project, from 2025 to 2027, the Ministry plans to provide 3,010 rural settlements with broadband access to internet through the fiber-optic communication line. Another target is to subsidize the last mile infrastructure in 1,120 rural settlements, further development of 5G in major cities and regional centers, and launch of internet through satellite communication for more than 250 remote and sparsely populated areas.

Ookla is a leading international company specializing in analysis of internet communication speed and quality. Ookla stands behind Speedtest service which allows users to measure download, upload speed and latency. Ookla compares the average speed of mobile and fixed broadband internet in various countries based on real test of users. The data are gathered anonymously through the Speedtest and reflect real condition of internet infrastructure across the world.
