Kazakhstan braces for thunderstorms, heavy rain and scorching temperatures on Sunday

Much of Kazakhstan is expected to experience unstable weather on June 21, with thunderstorms, heavy rain, strong winds and scorching temperatures forecast across large parts of the country, Qazinform News Agency cites the National Weather Service Kazhydromet.

According to the Mets, atmospheric fronts moving across Kazakhstan will bring rain and thunderstorms to most regions. Hail is possible in some areas, while western regions are expected to receive heavy rainfall. Squalls are also forecast in western and northwestern parts of the country. Strong winds are expected nationwide, and fog may develop overnight and in the early morning hours in northern regions.

At the same time, a severe heatwave will continue across much of the country. Daytime temperatures are forecast to reach 35-38°C in Atyrau, Aktobe, Kostanay, Akmola, North Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, East Kazakhstan and Kyzylorda regions, as well as in Abai, Zhetysu and Ulytau, western and southern parts of Karaganda region and northern part of Almaty region.

The highest temperatures are forecast in Kyzylorda region, where thermometers could climb to 40-42°C. In Mangistau region, temperatures are expected to range between 38°C and 42°C.

Forecasters have also warned of extreme heat of 40-41°C in southern Kostanay region, parts of Aktobe region, and western and southern areas of Ulytau region.

A high fire danger warning has been issued for several regions, including Atyrau, East Kazakhstan and Mangistau, as well as parts of Aktobe, Karaganda, Abai, Akmola, Almaty, Zhambyl and Zhetysu regions.

An extreme fire danger alert remains in effect for Kyzylorda region and parts of Kostanay, Akmola, Pavlodar, Karaganda, Ulytau, Abai, East Kazakhstan, Turkistan, Zhambyl, Almaty and Zhetysu regions.
