Kazakhstan becomes important bridge of Eurasian cooperation: President

BEIJING. February 22. KAZINFORM /Ruslan Suleimenov/ "Cooperation in the area of transport and communications is an important part of our relations. We know that the European Union is one of the trading partners of China and we want to become a transport bridge between China and Europe," Kazakh President N.Nazarbayev has said today at the meeting with Chinese business community representatives.

The President noted that we have already achieved the level of 15 mln tons of cargo transportation through Alashankou-Druzhba border crossing. Besides, we will finish construction of the second railway Khorgos-Almaty that is to connect Russia, Europe and Central Asian states.

"We will also finish the construction of a railway from Kazakhstan through Turkmenistan, Iran to the Persian Gulf which is to provide you with opportunities for transportation of your goods and resources. Taking into consideration the fiber optic communication and 10 flights to Astana and Almaty, we can see that Kazakhstan is becoming an important check point and bridge of the Eurasian cooperation," the President said.

According to the Head of State, the first stage of realization of the important Kazakh-Chinese project ICBC "Khorgos" comes to an end soon. "This project will afford great opportunities. This is a breakthrough project that will give a powerful impetus to our further cooperation," N.Nazarbayev said.

"Besides, Kazakhstan will finish the construction of "West Europe - West China" road in 2012," the President resumed.
