Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan to sign 17 agreements in higher education

Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan plan to sign a regular agreement on approval of a joint list of scientific publications, Kazinform News Agency quotes Kazakh Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek as saying in an interview with mass media.

The document will be signed as part of an official visit of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov, to Baku.

“A regular agreement will be signed today between the Kazakh Ministry [of Science and Higher Education - edit] and Azerbaijan President’s High Attestation Commission on approval of a joint list of scientific publications,” Sayasat Nurbek said.

He noted that this will enable the scholars of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan to have their works published in both countries’ editions.

According to him, in the future the sides plan to expand cooperation in expert evaluation of research grants and research projects.

He reminded of signing a major separate agreement on equivalent exchange of students.

“Henceforth we can exchange students both at the level of bachelor’s as well as master’s and doctoral degree programs,” Sayasat Nurbek emphasized.

The Kazakh Minister also announced signing a number of bilateral agreements between the leading universities of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

In his words, a delegation of 22 leading universities of Kazakhstan arrived in Azerbaijan.

“17 bilateral agreements are set to be signed tomorrow between the leading universities of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, including ADA University, Baku State University, our leading polytechnic universities,” he said.

On top of that, a two-day educational fair featuring all Kazakh universities will kick off on March 4.

According to Sayasat Nurbek, 37 branches of foreign universities have been opened in Kazakhstan to date, which include Cardiff University, Exeter, Queen’s University of Belfast, University of Arizona, Minnesota, Heriot-Watt, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

The Minister expressed hope that the unification of efforts in the field of science, education, namely in higher education, the unification of efforts of the Kazakh-Azerbaijani scientific communities will give a new impetus to the development of relations between the two countries.

Earlier, it was reported that Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan commodity turnover hit $533 million in 2024.
