Kazakhstan attends 53rd annual session of UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs

53 member states of the Commission and over 160 representatives of nongovernmental organizations from 55 countries take part in the event. The Kazakh delegation is headed by Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna, Ambassador to Austria Yerzhan Kazykhanov and Chairman of the Interior Ministry's Committee on Combating Drugs Zhanat Suleimenov.

At the first day of the event the Kazakh side spoke for tightening international control over trafficking of a number of chemical substances frequently used as precursors for synthetic drugs manufacture. Reports, informing partners of the measures taken by the Kazakh leadership on countering illicit traffic of narcotic drugs, intensive expert consultations and experience exchange within the framework of working groups are also on the agenda.

The Kazakh delegation intends to call the Commission members to consider the issue on strengthening interaction between the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and OSCE within the framework of the international campaign on countering the 'Afghan' drug trafficking. Moreover, the Kazakh delegation intends to attract attention of the session participants to necessity of activation of international cooperation within the framework of activity of the Central Asia Regional Information and Coordination Centre (CARICC) created in December, 2009.
