Kazakhstan attaches great importance to cooperation with WIPO - Nazarbayev

ASTANA. May 23. KAZINFORM Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev met with Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Gurry during the V Astana Economic Forum on Wednesday, the Presidential press service said.

The President of Kazakhstan said that our country attaches great importance to cooperation with WIPO.
"We have taken steps and made some amendments to our legislation aimed at protecting copyright. We value your recommendations on these issues in connection with the forthcoming accession of Kazakhstan to the WTO," Nursultan Nazarbayev noted.

Francis Gurry stressed that Kazakhstan achieved great results in the protection of copyright.

World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is a specialized UN agency and the leading intergovernmental organization for the development and use of intellectual property. At present, WIPO includes 185 member countries, 69 intergovernmental organizations and 284 NGOs.

Kazakhstan became a member of WIPO through the adoption of the Organization's Convention in 2003. According to the program of bilateral cooperation between the Government of Kazakhstan and the WIPO joint efforts are aimed at improving national legislation and law enforcement practice of Kazakhstan in the field of intellectual property.
