Kazakhstan as OSCE Chairman withdraws OSCE from 'hibernation' and crisis - int'l conference

ANA. April 28. KAZINFORM /Gulnara Zhandagulova/ The L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University is holding an international scientific conference dedicated to Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE in the context of ensuring stability and security in Eurasian region.

Kazakh specialists and their colleagues from the CIS and non-CIS states - Canada, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan - are taking part in the conference. Within the conference there will be discussed goals which Kazakhstan sets as the OSCE chairman in the context of strengthening of regional security system in Central Asia.

Opening the conference, First Secretary of the Political-Military OSCE Department of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry Serik Myrzakhmetov noted that expectations of the political establishment and expert circles of the countries focused on that Kazakhstan's chairmanship set real opportunity to wake from so-called 'hibernation' and crisis.

"The first 100 days of Kazakhstan's chairmanship give opportunity to talk about implementation of such expectations", S.Myrzakhmetov said.

S.Myrzakhmetov noted active operations of OSCE Chairman-in-Office - Kazakh Secretary of State-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kanat Saudabayev in this organization. According to his data, the Chairman-in-Office has visited 15 OSCE member states over three months.
