Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan strengthen higher education and science practical cooperation

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan Beibut Atamkulov with the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan, Kongranbai Sharipov, Kazinform News Agency learnt from the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on topical aspects of bilateral cooperation in higher education and science.

The parties stressed the need to strengthen cooperation within the framework of existing agreements signed directly between the universities of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Their number currently stands at 471 contracts.

During the meeting, Ambassador Atamkulov outlined the main messages of the reforms carried out in Kazakhstan on the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to improve the level of higher education and train high-quality youth personnel for the country.

In this regard, the Kazakh diplomat emphasized the similarity of the reforms and transformations carried out in Kazakhstan with the reforms of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on youth support and improving the quality of education.

As part of the execution of the instructions of the Heads of State from 2022, as well as in the implementation of the intergovernmental agreement from 2023, the ongoing work on the opening of a branch of the Mukhtar Auezov South Kazakhstan University in Chirchik and a branch of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers in Almaty was reviewed.

For reference: as of December 2023, 6721 Uzbek citizens are studying in Kazakh universities, and 416 Kazakhstani students are studying in Uzbek universities.
