Kazakhstan and UAE to develop jointly 'Khorgos-East Gate' special economic zone
DP World operates more than 60 terminals across six continents, with container handling generating around 80% of its revenue. In addition, the company has 11 new developments and major expansions underway in 10 countries. In 2011, DP World handled nearly 55 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent container units) across its portfolio from the Americas to Asia.
Chairman of the DP Woorld Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem stressed wide perspectives of cooperation with Kazakhstan. One of the main branches of activities could be a contribution in implementation of the project of free economic zone "Khorgos-East Gate" and Aktau Port.
According to Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the UAE company is ready to implement the project at the Kazakh- Chinese border within the shortest possible period of time, turning the "Khorgos" into the largest logistic center of Eurasia.
The DP World Chairman expressed his confidence that the project "Khorgos" and the Aktau port possess significant potential. Accordingto him, the key element of a successful transportation and logistics centers is a well developed infrastructure that will attract foreign business and investment.
"Kazakhstan is well positioned between the growing economies of China and European markets. In addition, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has a competent foreign policy, and Kazakhstan has great intellectual potential. We offer Kazakhstan to create better infrastructure in the region, which will be convenient and comfortable working with business," S. Sulayem said.
Besides, issues of realization of multifunctional complex "Abu-Dhabi Plaza" in Astana were discussed within the visit.
Asset Issekeshev met with representatives of the leading UAE Company "Aldar Properties" - the main project's investor. The UAE side invests $1.7 billion in the "Abu Dhabi Plaza", which will be the tallest building in Central Asia. The main building, a seventy-seven stories complex, will be 350 m tall. "Aldar Properties" representatives noted that the project is to be unveiled during the International specialized exhibition EXPO-2017 in Astana.
