Kazakhstan and Latvia share common history, says Nazarbayev

Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev has announced at a press briefing today after the bilateral negotiations with President of Latvia Andris Bērziņš.
"I would like to thank President of Latvia, Mr. Andris Bērziņš, for his official visit to our country. Kazakhstan and Latvia are connected by traditional friendship. As is known, we share common history. Currently, our bilateral political dialogue is of active character. Kazakhstan and Latvia closely cooperate at the parliamentarian, governmental, ministerial, business and scientific levels. The horizons of our bilateral relations are constantly expanding," President Nazarbayev stressed.
In addition, the Head of State noted that the Latvian leader visited Kazakhstan and Karaganda region, in particular, in order to unveil a monument to Latvians - victims of the political repressions.
N. Nazarbayev reminded that some 17 000 Latvians were moved to Kazakhstan during a wave of forced resettlement back in 1930-40s.
