Kazakhstan Ambassador, EC President shared views on energy issues
Economic and energy dialogues should remain key link in strengthening bilateral long-term cooperation. In this regard, José Manuel Barroso noted Euro Commission's interest in increasing the number of participants of Nabucco project with Kazakhstan's involvement in it. Particular attention was paid to the necessity of ensuring security of energy supply and diversification of hydrocarbons on the EU market where Kazakhstan could play an important role and participate in such projects.
José Manuel Barroso welcomed Kazakh Leader Nursultan Nazarbayev's initiative on establishment of an International Nuclear Fuel Bank on our country's territory under the (AEA control and announcing August 29 the Day of Renunciation of Mass Destruction Weapons. He stressed Kazakhstan's great contribution to the nuclear energy sphere and pointed out necessity of the country's active participation in the nuclear security summit scheduled for March 2010 in Washington. The event is initiated by U.S. President Barack Obama.
