Kazakh tennis player to kick off Sydney campaign

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Tennis player Mikhail Kukushkin will represent Kazakhstan at the Apia International tournament in Sydney, Australia, Kazinform has learnt from Vesti.kz.
Kukushkin easily defeated world №198 John-Patrick Smith in straight sets 7:6, 6:3 in the final match of men's qualifying round early Monday morning. The Kazakhstani needed 1h 40min to dash hopes of the 25-year-old Aussie. According to the men's singles draw available at the official website of the tournament, Kukushkin will vie against Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the opening match. The tournament with the prize fund of nearly $495,000 will run from 11 till 17 January 2015.
